FAQ
Are there any lesbian bars left?
Yes, but there are fewer dedicated lesbian bars than gay men’s bars. In LA, many queer-women nights (like Girlpower) pop up inside inclusive venues. That’s why we focus on women-centered programming, staff, and rules—to offer the vibe people are seeking even if the venue serves the broader community on other nights.
Where do most lesbians work?
Everywhere—from creative fields and hospitality to tech, healthcare, and public service. Girlpower draws a wide mix of professionals and students; it’s part party, part community mixer, so you’ll meet folks across industries.
Why don’t lesbian bars exist anymore?
A mix of factors: economic pressures, shifting social patterns, and the rise of multi-use queer spaces. Community-driven, women-centered nights help fill the gap with intentional programming and safety policies.
What are lesbian bars called?
You’ll hear lesbian bars, sapphic bars, women-centered or queer-women spaces. We use “women-centered” to be inclusive of lesbians, bi women, and trans/non-binary folks who want a femme-forward environment.
Plan your night
- Arrive early for easier entry and first-round specials.
- Solo-friendly: Tell the door or a bartender you’re open to meeting people; we’ll help with a few low-key intros.
- Photos: Ask before snapping anyone. Consent first, always.
- Transport: Rideshare recommended; street and garage options vary around Santa Monica Blvd.
